Daniel 8:21 “The shaggy goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the large horn that is between his
eyes is the first king.”

Daniel 8:8 “….. But as soon as he was mighty, the large horn was broken;”
The Siege of Jerusalem
The Siege of Jerusalem in the year 70 AD was the decisive event of the First Jewish-Roman War. The Roman army, led by the
future Emperor Titus, with Tiberius Julius Alexander as his second-in-command, besieged and conquered the city of Jerusalem, which
had been occupied by its Jewish defenders in 66. The siege ended with the sacking of the city and the destruction of its famous Second
Temple. The destruction of both the first and second temples is still mourned annually as the Jewish fast Tisha B'Av. The Arch of
Titus, celebrating the Roman sack of Jerusalem and the Temple, still stands in Rome. 46
It is interesting that evidence still exists in Rome in the form of “Arch of Titus” for the destruction of the Temple.
Is the small horn written about in Daniel 8:9 the Roman Emperor Vespasian and Titus, his son? Titus Flavius
Caesar Vespasianus Augustus was the Roman Emperor from 69AD to 79AD. Did Daniel say that the Emperor
will be mighty, but not by his own power? It was Titus, his son who did the conquering of the city of Jerusalem,
not Vespasian the Roman Emperor at the time of it destruction. Didn’t Daniel also prophesy when the Temple
would be properly restored after a prophetic period of time?
Daniel 8:24 “His power will be mighty, but not by his own power, and he will destroy to an extraordinary
degree, And prosper and perform his will; He will destroy mighty men and the holy people.”
Daniel 8:14 “He said to me, For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly
47
restored.”
The use of the words 2300 evenings and mornings are different from the use of the word “day.” The reason was
sacrifices were made both in the morning and evening. The use of “day” in prophetic scripture is commonly used
to represent a year. This is similar to a week, seven days representing seven years in prophetic scripture. A prime
example is the Prophet Ezekiel’s prediction of the siege of Jerusalem, in which it states “a day for each year.”
Ezekiel 4:6-7 “When you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side
and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah; I have assigned it to you for forty days, a day for each year.
“Then, you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared and prophesy against
48
it.”
This is prophetic since it is written about a future event, the “2300 evenings and mornings” or rotation of the earth
which translates into 2300 years - “a day for each year.” This prophetic period relates to the next level of rotation
of the earth which is around the sun. The earth’s orbit occurs on an annual basis of one year. The evening and
the morning also marks a prophetic day. Now, doesn’t this prophetic day clearly represent a year - a day for each
year? This heavenly event in May 2370 marks the glory being restored. This is exactly 2300 years from the breach
of the walls occurring in May 70 AD. It is amazing to find His Word ties to the exact month described in
